The Snapshot

The International Relations Services office at the University of Cyprus (UCY) needed a precision-targeted engine to attract high-caliber students for their 2026 postgraduate intake. By moving away from broad reach and leveraging Meta’s latest AI-driven performance tools, we secured 731 international leads at a lean €0.45 Cost Per Lead (CPL) in just 30 days.

The Client: Bridging the Mediterranean to the World

The University of Cyprus (UCY) stands as a beacon of research excellence. Their mission was to fill a diverse portfolio of 32 Masters and 19 PhD programs across 16 target countries. To hit their goals for the 2026 intake, they needed a way to identify high-potential candidates who were ready to commit to postgraduate studies abroad, from Western Europe to the Gulf region.

Our Strategic Approach: The Meta Performance Engine

We built a conversion-focused system where every asset and audience signal served a single goal: quality applications.

1. High-Impact Creative: Carousels & Video

To cut through the noise of global education marketing, we produced custom video assets and dynamic carousels.

  • Engagement-First Design: Short-form videos highlighted the research environment and Mediterranean lifestyle, while carousels allowed students to swipe through specific program highlights.
  • Constant Optimization: This creative variety allowed us to test which formats resonated most in different regions, ensuring we only spent budget on the assets that actually converted.

2. Leveraging Meta’s Latest AI Performance Targeting

We moved beyond old-school manual targeting. Instead, we utilized Meta’s latest AI-driven performance-based targeting to find the most relevant students.

  • Intelligent Signals: Rather than a rigid list of interests, we fed the AI specific “signals” to guide its search. This included current education levels and specific study fields relevant to UCY’s programs.
  • Algorithm Precision: This allowed the AI to find the highest-converting candidates across 16 countries, scaling the campaign with a level of accuracy that manual targeting simply can’t match.

3. Prequalifying Through “Smart Friction”

To protect the International Relations team’s time, we optimized the native lead forms to act as a quality filter:

  • Work/Academic Email Validation: We restricted sign-ups to professional or academic email formats to filter out casual inquiries.
  • Custom Selection Menus: We added mandatory dropdown fields where candidates had to choose their specific area of interest (e.g., Policy and Law, Life Sciences, or Engineering). This ensured that every lead was tied to a specific academic goal.

Intent Over Assumptions: Data-Driven Scaling

By letting the AI optimize for performance while we monitored the high-level signals, we identified exactly where the global demand was strongest.

  • Life Sciences: This was our efficiency champion, delivering 212 leads at a steady €0.44 CPL.
  • Policy and Law: A high-demand segment that secured 137 leads.
  • Art & Design: Successfully captured 82 high-intent leads.
  • Computational Intelligence: Brought in 89 leads across its specialized tracks.

This approach allowed us to scale with total discipline, funneling the budget into the programs and regions showing the highest conversion potential.

The breakthrough: slashing cost by 35%

By optimizing the funnel and focusing on these high-performing “gold mines” in Mexico and Argentina, we saw the Cost Per Lead (CPL) plummet from $7.62 in February to a lean $2.61 in April. We proved that Meta could deliver not just low costs, but the high-level business contacts Tomorrow Foods needed to grow.
